Motor skills are categorised has two types, gross motor skill and fine motor skills. Children of 2 to 3 years of age starts developing motor skills, they begin to run, jump, walk on toes and kicking. These children can now hold large paint brush to paint, scribbles holding thick crayon and are able to draw standing sleeping lines. However, it is only at age of 5 years that the child becomes efficient enough to throw ball with one hand climb the stairs alternating feet, cuts shapes scissors etc.
Although a child starts babbling at the age of 8 months, he/she starts to join words forming short sentences and uses adjectives at the age of 2 years. They begin responding to questions like where, what, when etc. Till the time they reach the age of 5 years, children tries to tell stories, starts to ask question likes how, when why, expresses and shares thoughts into sentences.
Cognitive skills are related to the mental processes of a child. A child when reaches the age of 2 years begins to identify himself in pictures, chooses books of own interests, identifies objects, starts to explain by recalling the events of the day. When at 5 years old child begins to create rhymes with words, describe pictures and person with details.
A two year toddler starts to differentiate between girl and boy becomes curious and participates in activities like singing, clapping and dancing.
